Franchi Serial Number Lookup
My father-in-law needs an ID on his Franchi sporting clay gun. It's at least 19 years old, which puts it outside the current Franchi USA/Benelli/Browning? Catalog and serial number records. It's a break-action 12-Ga. O/U with 30' vent-ribbed barrels marked 'S.p.A. LUIGI FRANCHI BRESCIA Made in Italy Field'.
I hope some of you are shotgun experts. I've a L A Luigi Franchi Brescia 12 gauge semiauto that I've been trying to determine just what it is. It has engraved quail on the left side of the receiver, and engraved pheasants on the other side. It has a 32' vent rib barrel. I believe it was made in the early 50's. The left side of the barrel near the breach end has S. A. Luigi Franchi Brescia Made in Italy Proof testedfor 3' Magnum stamped. The right side of the breach end of the barrel is stamped Stoeger Arms Corporation New York.
The under side of the breach end is stamped English Steel Co. H. F. C. N. (I think, it is written is script) Supercromato.
Also stamped on the bottom is Ky 1,205 20,3 with 76 stamped below the 20,3 ; 17,5 with 18,4 stamped below the 17, 5 ; then there is a couple of symbols, and the Letters PSF and xii.
I think this may be what is called a Crown Grade, but????
Does anyone know what I have, or can point to Shotgun identification site?

This auction is for a RARE and iconic Luigi Franchi SPAS 12 tactical combat shotgun. SPAS stands for Special Purpose Automatic Shotgun This gun was made in Italy and imported by F.I.E. Corp in Miami . It fires 12ga. shotgun shells (2 ¾ inch variety) faster than you can reload them. It has a dual mode action that can be fired as either a Semi-Auto or Pump shotgun, at the “press of a button”. It has the factory original 8 shot, high capacity magazine tube. Yes! It has the factory original top folding stock. The 21.5' barrel has a fixed blade front sight and a ghost ring rear sight.
This SPAS is 100% original. The folding stock can quickly be configured many different ways for the optimal tactical deployment of this weapon in a manner best suited to your immediate needs.

The SPAS-12 was designed from the ground up as a rugged military shotgun in 1979 and was designated the Special Purpose Automatic Shotgun. The AI date code stamped on the bottom of the receiver of this shotgun indicates a 1982 date of manufacture (very pre-ban). This gun was one of the very few shotguns that was determined to be an 'assault weapon' by the Socialist State of California in 1989, in the very first of too many 'Assault Weapons' bans. While it was 'grandfathered ONLY if properly registered', taking it to any range in California only invited much unwanted scrutiny. In 1990 Franchi renamed the shotgun to the Sporting Purpose Automatic Shotgun, and this allowed continued sales to the United States, but only as a limited-magazine-capacity, fixed-stock model until 1994. Following the Clinton's Federal Assault Weapons Ban, imports of SPAS-12 shotguns were stopped into the United States. In September 2004 the ban had expired, however Franchi had already ended production of the SPAS-12 in early 2000. The factory retail price of a new SPAS 12 in its final year of production (2000) was $1500.00, limited only to sales outside of the United States and to non-restricted countries. Prices have continued to soar for these hard to find shotguns. You may remember the SPAS-12 shotgun was featured in scenes from many movies to include 'Terminator' and 'Jurassic Park'; as well as numerous TV shows, and even video games. This is a very unique shotgun, in that it can be fired as a pump action OR as semi-automatic. IT IS AN EXTREMELY SOUGHT AFTER PERSONAL DEFENSE WEAPON.
This gun functions perfectly. The bore is excellent with no pitting or rust. There are a few light scrapes where the slide action was cycled and scuffed the finish a little (very normal on this model gun). The metal finish overall is in great shape. There are some normal use marks and perhaps a scuff or two from living life in the back of an overcrowded gun safe! What can I say…it just did not get out much!
This fine shotgun comes as pictured and would make a great addition to any firearms collection.
